Making a difference
At PKF, we believe that the most admired, and successful, businesses today are those that not only deliver profit, but also those that recognise their impact more widely in the community and environment, and seek to contribute in a positive way – whether that’s by looking after and developing all of their staff, respecting the natural environment or engaging with residents in their local area.
Here are some of the ways in which we bring this to life.
Supporting our local communities
We aim to help our local communities and, in particular, are keen to support charities that work within areas in which we operate: East London, Leeds and South Africa.
We provide financial support to our charities, including through match-giving, and help our staff with easy access to making charitable donations via our payroll system. In addition, everyone is entitled to additional leave each year for community volunteering activities, whether as individuals or as teams.

Promoting respect for everyone
We work hard to make PKF a great place for everyone, and believe that we all have a role to play in celebrating our diversity and continuing to better understand and support one another.
Our commitment to inclusion and equality is reflected in our core policies and ways of working, including how we promote and reward our people. On a practical level, our Inclusion & Wellbeing Group, which is made up of people from a range teams and seniority levels, helps us to create a culture of understanding of one another and respect for all.

Protecting our environment
Working with a respected environmental consultancy, we have calculated our carbon emissions. We offset these emissions by sponsoring environmentally and socially beneficial projects around the world.
Our investments include tree planting projects in the UK and the Amazon rainforest, initiatives to provide renewable energy in Aruba, India and Indonesia and a project to rehabilitate a borehole to provide drinking water for communities in Uganda.

Looking after our people
Making a difference to others may not be your first thought if you are asked to describe the role of a typical accountant – but then we are not ‘typical’. We believe that we have an important role to play in supporting each other’s wellbeing.
We encourage people to find a sustainable balance between their careers and other priorities in their day-to-day lives. We were a pioneer of agile and remote working practices well before the pandemic, and continue to look for opportunities to introduce more flexibility in our ways of working, and to promote the physical and mental health and wellbeing of our people.

Fulfilling our potential
We support everyone in fulfilling their potential. We invest a considerable amount of time and financial resources throughout the year in our training programmes. Given our size, it should be no surprise that our technical training is of the highest standard.
However, we go much further than that to help our people to develop soft skills – such as emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, coaching and team-building – that will help them to make the most of their careers.
